Isabel's Journey

I came across this website http://www.isabelcoupland.com

Who is she?
ISABEL LYNN COUPLAND is a Filipino-American. She was born in Niles, Ohio on March 20, 2000 (she’ll be 5 this year).

She was a quiet baby. Before she got sick, she loved to be in the water. Her favorite dish was sinigang. A sour soup eaten with rice. She calls it sigang. Her favorite dip is soy sauce and vinegar.

She is a beautiful child inside out. She was careful not to hurt other people’s feelings. Although she’s wary of strangers, once she warms up to you, she can become a chatterbox.

She is such a strong and inquisitive girl. She would ask the nurses and doctors if there are procedures not familiar to her. Throughout her treatment, she displayed a resilient and tenacious spirit.

Even though Isabel likes singing and dancing, she dreams of becoming a doctor or a nurse so she can help treat young kids too.

Before going to sleep at night, she prays to God to heal her very very fast.

Isabel’s Story
ISABEL LYNN COUPLAND was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma stage IV on May 7, 2004.She was 4 years old.

SIX weeks prior to diagnosis, Isabel started limping. When I took her to see a doctor, we were told to go to the ER of Children’s Columbus. She had a slight fever. They took an ultra sound of her hip and tried to aspirate what they thought was fluid in her thigh. The doctor couldn’t get any and it was thought to be dried blood. She was sent home with a toxic synovitis diagnosis.

A few weeks had gone by and Isabel had gone from a very energetic 4 year old (always wanting to jump on the couch), into a TV watching kid. She lost her appetite and was losing weight. When diagnosed, the disease had spread on her bones, bone marrow and liver.

She received 6 rounds of chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell transplant at Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. She had radiation done at James Cancer Research Hospital in Columbus, OH. On 2/8/2005 she had a bone marrow biopsy and the results returned positive with neuroblastoma. She is going to explore treatments at other institutions, possibly Memorial-Sloan Kettering in NY.

How you can help

Prayers. Help us pray. As Jesus had said: “Whenever two or more gather in my name, there I am in their midst.”

Psalm 34:17 The LORD hears his people when they call to him for help. HE rescues them from all their troubles.

Cards/Letters. We need all the support that we can get. Your kind words will mean a lot to us. You can send Isabel a card or a letter. It will let her know that she’s not alone in this battle.

Kindly send your cards or letters to…

Donate Blood. Isabel had received numerous blood and platelet transfusions. I am thankful to those who donated blood and continue to do so. I encourage everyone of you to donate blood to your local Red Cross. This act of kindness means life to someone like Isabel and many others.
